athenaClinicals Achieves 100% Client Confidence in Meeting 2011 Meaningful Use Standards in KLAS Report of Ambulatory EMRs

WATERTOWN, Mass., Jan 08, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- athenahealth, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATHN), a leading provider of internet-based business services to physician practices, today announced that according to a new KLAS report Ambulatory EMR: On Track for Meaningful Use?, athenaClinicalsSM, the Company's web-based electronic health record (EHR) service offering, achieved 100% client confidence in its ability to enable them to meet 2011 Meaningful Use standards under the HITECH Act. For this report, KLAS interviewed 1,458 providers about 26 EMR solutions in order to determine EMRs' ability to meet approaching 2011 meaningful use requirements as set by the HIT Policy Committee. Confidence in these solutions is a critical metric to EMR adoption as clients prepare for reimbursement bonus eligibility and compliance issues.

The report, which was released January 6th,cites that the high vote of client confidence in athenaClinicals builds off athenahealth's legacy and reputation for strong support and service with its revenue cycle management platform, and illustrates appeal for a results-based business model that is fully aligned with clients' financial and clinical outcomes. Ahead of the new guidelines that would hold providers accountable for their use of EMRs, in September 2009 athenahealth launched its Federal Stimulus Bonus Payment Guarantee Program guaranteeing that physicians who use its athenaClinicals service will receive a HITECH Act bonus payment under the 2011 program year.

As part of this bonus payment guarantee program, the Company's Clinical Intelligence Team (CIT) will work to deliver the maximum allowable stimulus benefit to physicians by ensuring that both athenaCollectorSM and athenaClinicals services are continuously updated and compliant with all HITECH Act reporting requirements. "We feel the KLAS survey results of extremely high levels of confidence from our national client base in athenahealth's ability to allow them to meet emerging meaningful use standards further supports and demonstrates our differentiated business model as being truly aligned with clients' financial and clinical outcomes," said Rob Cosinuke, athenahealth's Chief Marketing Officer. "The overarching benefit of our unique software-enabled service (SeS) model is that we take on the work of getting physicians enrolled and qualified for new programs like the HITECH Act, and at no additional charge, we update our national network daily with new clinical rules and requirements for physicians, whether from the government or commercial payers."
